Garena recently re-entered India with its popular battle royale title, Free Fire. The Singapore-based company has stated that the mobile game will have an entirely new identity and will include India-centric features.

Last February, the Indian government recommended banning 54 Chinese mobile applications, including Free Fire, which was one of the most downloaded games in 2021.

In an interview with, Vaibhav Jhaveri, Senior Manager at Garena, stated that the modified version has been developed keeping local laws and regulations in mind.

What’s New in Free Fire India?

Garena has announced that they have chosen Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the face of Free Fire India, and he will be featured in the game as a playable character named ‘Thala.’

The game will be packed with several features to help players progress from beginners to grandmasters, with the highest rank in Free Fire being awarded to the top 300 players in a region.

Similar to Battlegrounds Mobile India, Free Fire India will implement a ‘playtime limit’ and remind players to take breaks if they’ve been playing for an extended period. Additionally, the Singapore-based company will remind users that the game is a virtual world.

To comply with Indian laws, the game will also implement spending limits and a reporting mechanism for toxicity. To increase its presence in the country’s esports market, Garena recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Uttar Pradesh government, allowing the company to host an international-level esports tournament in the state in December.
