In her sixth Grand Slam semifinal, Keys will face 28-year-old Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, who is set to become the world number one soon.

Sabalenka, who achieved the number one ranking for the first time this week, reached her fifth major semifinal by defeating China’s 23rd seed Zheng Saisai 6-1, 6-4.

Keys, comparing Vondrousova and Sabalenka’s playing styles, said, “Tomorrow will be a completely different match.” “The reason is that she is the number one player in the world. … It’s going to be a tough battle. No easy points. Honestly, I’m just going to try to stay as solid as possible and get as many balls back as I can.”

Australian Open champion Sabalenka is the only player in the tournament who has not lost a single set so far. She also defeated Keys in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Keys had her deepest run at the US Open in 2017 when she was the runner-up to Sloane Stephens. She also made the semifinals at the Australian Open and French Open.

In Sabalenka’s draw, she is the only woman ranked above American Coco Gauff. Sixth seed Gauff lost to French Open runner-up Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

In addition, on Wednesday, third seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia defeated eighth seed Andrey Rublev, who is Medvedev’s godfather, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in the all-Russian quarterfinal.

In Friday’s semifinal, he will face either top seed and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Germany or 12th seed Alexander Zverev.
